I think your best bet at this stage is to try to find a marriage for Patrick and Mary!. It's possible they married before they left Ireland and started their family once settled in the US!. On that assumption, I'd suggest you look for a marriage from 1864!. Conveniently, that is the year civil registration of marriages started for all religious denominations in Ireland!.

The GRO in Ireland will do a search for you over a five year period for 6Euros!. You can find an application form at

http://www!.groireland!.ie!.

Fill it in with the names of bride and groom and ask that they search the marriage index for the five years 1864 to 1869!. They will charge you 4Euros if they cannot find the entry!. If they find it, they'll send you a photocopy of the marriage certificate within six weeks!.

An Irish marriage certificate will provide you with the name of the townland where bride and groom were living prior to the wedding, and the names and occupations of their fathers!. Armed with this information you can really start to delve into your Irish ancestry!. This website has lots of helpful advice for taking that further:

http://www!.irish-genealogy-toolkit!.com!.

If the GRO in Ireland can't find a marriage you have two choices!. Firstly you could continue searching Irish records as they come online!. This is happening on a continual basis now!. One site you might like to keep an eye on is:

http://www!.brsgenealogy!.ie

which is very slowly digitising and placing online millions of church records!. I've already searched for a Patrick Moriarty marriage -- no joy at present but that doesn't mean it won't ever appear! Just keep looking!. It's free to search but there's a 5 Euros charge to download individual entries (so it can work out pricey, if you're not careful or lucky!)!.

The second option is to consider another possibility: that Patrick and Mary met and married after emigrating to the US!. If that's the case, you won't be able to take your Irish research further based on the scant information you currently have!. You'll need to search US immigration/naturalisation records!.

Good luck with your research!.
