Question: Any advice on what to do with my sons last name!?
The father of my son gave my son his last name!. Years have passed and he has never been there for me or my son!. We had hime out of wedlock and he has been nothing but trouble for me and my son!. I am married to another man that sees my son as his own!. Should I take away my sons current last name and have him have my maiden name or is it better to have my husbands last name!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is really a legal question, not a genealogy question!. You want to be sure whatever you do is the legal way!. Maybe you should contact a lawyer or local legal services!.
If your name is the same as your new husband, and he willing to adopt him, that may be the best way!.

Good luck!. Hope all turns out well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You say that years have passed!. Perhaps your son wishes to have some say in this matter!? If I were you and your husband, I would contact a lawyer who specializes in children and family issues!. Or if money is an issue, call Legal Aide!. They can give you the names of some people (maybe a psychologist) who has experience in these matters, and who can give you counsel as to what's best for your son!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Did your son's father sign away his legal rights!? In most jurisdictions, he has to do that before an adoption can take place -- and possibly before you can change his name!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

your guy could adopt the kid, which would change the last nameWww@QuestionHome@Com
