Question: Puzzled about family genealogy!?
I have searched for my grandfathers place of birth for a long while now,
Always assumed he was english!.
There doesn't seem to be any sign of him on any BMD indexes 1903 (when he was born!.)
I sent off for his army records in the hope to discover his origin, but all it tells me is his fathers name which i already knew!. No mothers name either ( GUTTED! )
The forms do however say that he was from ENGLAND!. But another form says he was born in CORK,
How can this be !?!?!?!?
also puzzling me is my grandmother, Always knew she was welsh through and threw, Born and raised!. I have her certs to prove it!.
BUT within his army records is also his marriage details , everything is correct exept next to her name as his bride it says in brackets (irish) as nationality!.
None of this makes sense to me, can anyone out there shed some light for me !?!?!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The army records could well be explained by a clerical error (you should see my grandfather's discharge papers, quite a few things on them are wrong!)!.

As for your grandfather's birth: you say he was FROM England but BORN IN Cork!. Is it possible his parents home address was in England but he was born while they were in Ireland for some reason!? Knowing the exact wording would be helpful!Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you haven't found any exact matches in the England/Wales indexes it may well be he was born in Ireland!.

I have used the following website for ordering Irish certificates so you could order a birth certificate with the information you know and fingers crossed they might be able to find out some information for you!. If they can't find anything registered in Ireland then you could post the info you have on here and see if any of us can help you further!.

Did your Grandfather have any Brothers or Sisters!?

also, as you know your Grandfathers fathers name, you could check for marriages under his name to find out his wifes name, and therefore your Grandfathers mothers name!?

UK answer!.
I found two possible matches as well, one of them was registered in the A/M/J quarter, the other in the J/A/S quarter!. It sometimes happened that a birth was registered in the next quarter as we have 42 days to register a birth!.
These are the details of both of them!.

If you can think of anything else that might lead one of us to him just edit your question and include the information!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Back in the day, lots of records were not accurately kept!. Anyone from the British Isles may have been called one thing or the other!.
Check with the Mormon Church in Salt Lake City!. They have records from waaay back!.
Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
