Position:Home>Genealogy> What Nationality is the surname Guillotte and how do you pronounce it?Question: What Nationality is the surname Guillotte and how do you pronounce it!? Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Guillotte / Guillot originated in France!. An ancestor, the widow of a man named Guillot, came to New France (Canada) as a fille du roi about 1670!. Unfortunately, I can't remember which of my many 6th or 7th great-grandmothers this was, but I was interested to note that wherever she came from in France was the home of Joseph-Ignace Guillotin, for whom the guillotine was named!. That was apparently the town's only claim to fame!. (Ironic that Guillotin, distressed by the name's association with the guillotine, changed his surname!.) The name was pronounced gwee-yoh but when it's spelled Guillotte it's often pronounced gwee-yott or even jillott!.Www@QuestionHome@Com French Canadian "French Canadian spelling of Guillot, reflecting the Canadian pronunciation!." http://www!.answers!.com/topic/guillotte Www@QuestionHome@Com French Canadian spelling of Guillot, reflecting the Canadian pronunciation French: from a pet form of the personal name Guille, itself a short form of Guillaume!.
