Call your aunt Alice and assume she is your mother "Gertude"'s sister!.

Alice & Gertrude = sisters
Anne & GrAcle = 1st cousins
Andy & Gerald = 2nd cousins

You are 1st cousin to your Aunt's children!. ("Anne")
You are first cousin once removed to her grandchildren ("Andy")!. You can see the grandchild is one line below you in the generations!.

When (if) you have children ("Gerald"), they will be second cousins to the grandchild "Andy" - they are on the same generation level!.
