Question: If a person was born in England of Irish parents are they first or second generation Irish!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Your parents who came over would be first generation!. You would be second generation!. We here in America deal with that question all the time and so we got the routine down flat lolWww@QuestionHome@Com

If you were not born in Ireland, you are not Irish, as far as nationality is concerned!. You are English!. Your HERITAGE is Irish!. You, being the first person in your family in recent generations born in England are first generation English, not Irish!. If you give birth in England, your child will be 2nd generation English!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well both my parents were irish, and i was born here in england and i havent got a clue! i honestly couldnt say that i was first generation irish!.!.!.so i think out of the 2 options youve given i'd have to pick second generation irish!.!.!.but!.!.!.if im ever filling out a form where you have to tick the nationality box, id never think of putting irish!.!.!.!.because i dont feel that i am!.!.!.!.surely being born here makes me british, which is the box i always tick!.!.!.!.interesting question though xWww@QuestionHome@Com

Born in England to Irish parents:
You would be first generation English of Irish descent!. (Unless there's a typo in the question)!.

First generation being shorthand for first generation born in X or to have X nationality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you're still living in England you're second generation English, but that is pure politics, all your heritage is Irish, you can come home and apply for citizenship of Ireland immeidiately if you're under eighteenWww@QuestionHome@Com

In my opinion, the child in question would be 1st generation English, but of Irish parentage!. Although the child has Irish parentage, they are not, of themselves, Irish!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well you can't be first generation as that is your parents and you aren't second either as you were born in England which makes you English of Irish descent!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
