Question: Archuleta, New Mexico and David Archuleta have anything in common!?
I ran across Archuleta, New Mexico on a map and wondered if it had anything to do with David Archuleta's (American Idol) family!? I know he was from Utah but thought there might be a connection there!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I looked up Archuleta for you!.

Castilianized form of Basque Aretxuloeta, a topographic name meaning ‘oak hollow’, from aretx, Biscayan variant of (h)artiz ‘oak’ + zulo ‘hole’, ‘hollow’ + -eta ‘place or group of’!.

Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford University Press, ISBN 0-19-508137-4

There is an Archuleta county in Colorado, which proves either the original Archuleta got around or there were several men with that name who were important enough to name something after!.

It isn't as common as "Rameriz" or "Garcia", but it isn't a unique Spanish name either!. I suspect there is no relation!. You'd have to find out which Archuleta the town was named after, then trace the idol Archuleta's family back 100 - 300 years to see if he connected!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
