If he is living, I am confused as to why you cannot ask him about his parents and grandparents!. Anything beyond that you can start finding on census records!. The most recent available in the US is 1930!. The 1940 records will be available in 2012 (the Federal Government keeps census records private for 72 years in the US)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The only way you will find out the names of his parents (short of asking him if he is still alive) is to pay for a copy of his birth certificate!. How you do that depends on exactly where in the world you are, and as I am not psychic (all Yahoo English-speaking questions get lumped together in one giant pot and can be seen by everyone no matter which Yahoo portal they are using) I wouldn't like to guess where in the world you are or where you are researching!. Although you will probably be able to order the certificate online (people apply for other peoples certificates all the time), you will have to wait 7 days for it to come in the post or however long it takes, and only then will you have some names to work with!.

Narrow down your question to a country and if the USA (state) and someone will advise on which route to take and help you find an index reference for it if appropriate so you can put in an application through the official channels!. Don't go paying a third party company to do it for you as they will charge through the nose!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Do a search on the web, everyone has a cousin that they haven't seen in years who has done some of the research already!. in a search engine type in
(your last name)+genealogy
you can also try
(your last name)+family
