this is because in countries that were colonised by Britain and were in slavery man of the european men raped the women and the women then became pregnant and gave birth also there are lots of dutch settlers in south africa and they have mixed marriages west africa is were all the strong slaves were taken from so that means that there were europeans in the countries and they probably wanted someone to sleep with!? i don't know i just know about south africa sozWww@QuestionHome@Com

There are untold things that happened long ago!. If you think these modern times are harsh, just imagine how evil it was long ago!? Wars can destroy information!. Natural disasters can destroy information!. There are temples and cites all over the world that are under seven miles of ocean water!. If there is to be a nuclear war today, and some survive it to carry on life, then people years from now would be asking who were the people of 2008!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

By what I learnt in history classes!. A lot of slavery trafficking encouraged Westerners to come to Africa!. Horrible a lot of the female african slaves would be raped by the westerners in charge of gathering slaves!. That seems to be the bad Start of that blood line!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Races have probably been mixing for centuries!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Actually, those African Americans with the greatest percentage of European ancestry probably have intermarried with individuals of European descent within the last two generations!. The highest percentage of self-identified blacks with a large percentage of European DNA (over 1/4) live mostly in either California or the Seattle area!. Such unions have also been more readily accepted near military bases and within large metropolitan areas!.

Elsewhere in the United States, African Americans average between 17 to and 23!.5 percent European ancestry according to recent DNA samplings; that means that 106 out of their 128 ancestors from seven generations back were of African ancestry while 22 percent were of European ancestry!. Seventy percent have less than fifteen percent European ancestry while only ten percent are over 50 percent white!. Since only a small percentage of Americans of any racial designation can document all their ancestors seven generations back, however, such evidence must necessarily come from DNA sampling!.

Most Africans came to the New World between 1565 and 1807 by way of slave ships following the Middle Passage from West and Central Africa to North America and the Caribbean!. Approximately 3/4ths of these slaves came from West Africa while the remainder came from the Angola-Congo region of Africa!. Genetic analysis has identified 40 ethnic groups of orign from at least 25 different kingdoms found within sub-Saharan Africa among the descendants of those slaves sold to British North America in exchange for textiles and firearms!.

During this period, a mixed European and African ancestry resulted primarily from two different sources:
1) Indentured servants of primarily English origin married slaves or former slaves of African descent prior to the American Revolution!.
2) White planters fathered the children of female slaves, some of whom were already of mixed African and European lineage!. For example, the children of Sally Hemmings and Thomas Jefferson (or one of his close relatives) were 1/8 black!. Sally was the daughter of Elizabeth Hemmings and Thomas Wayles, who was also the father of Jefferson's wife, Martha Wayles Skelton Jefferson, which would have made for "interesting" family reunions if the Jefferson family had had any, although Martha died before Jefferson supposedly began his relationship with Sally!.

In other countries, especially in Latin America, Europeans and Africans intermarried in much greater numbers than in the British colonies and later in most of the Southern United States!. The French in Louisiana for the most part, however, mixed more easily with Africans than their counterparts of British descent!.

If you took a DNA test, the percentage of other races within your genetic makeup would depend largely upon how near these individuals were to you in time!. For instance, if Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemmings were your direct ancestors seven generations back, you would be able to claim some Welsh ancestry from Thomas Jefferson along with an even smaller percentage of African ancestry by way of Sally Hemmings, but your more recent ancestry would stem from the complete lineage of your parents and grandparents!. Thus, if your maternal great grandfather met and married a Japanese or Korean bride, you would be of 1/8th Asian descent!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
