Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: There are DNA tests but the only way you could possibly get a complete picture is with using Autosomal DNA, not Y & Mitochondrial!. A lot of companies that do genealogy DNA are not doing these tests!. Put DNA tribes in your search engine and you will come up with a company that will do the Autosomal testing!. I understand it might not be specific!. The same DNA crosses national, racial, and ethnic boundaries!. also people within the same national, racial and ethnic boundaries can have different DNA!. Y DNA goes from father to son only!. Mitochondrial DNA goes from mother to both sons and daughters but only the daughters pass it on to their children!. You get Autosomal DNA 50-50 from both parents coming down from all your ancestors!. It is the only DNA that relates a female to her father or any one to the ancestors who are the spouses of their direct Y & Mitochondrial ancestors!. As you go back the number of people you descend from pyramids!. If you get back to your 6x great grandparents, barring any duplicates, you are directly descended from 510 individuals!. Of those 510, you get your Autosomal DNA from all of them!. You get your Mitochondrial DNA from only 8 and if you are a male you get your Y DNA from only 8, leaving out 494 people!. Y & Mitochondrial are used in genealogy as they go back in a straight line virtually unchanged!. They are both helpful in matching family trees and when a person does this it can enable them through research to disover those spouses of their direct Y & Mitochondrial lines!. The companies that do this state they will help you discover "your deep ancestral roots!." However, they will only show your deep ancestral roots in only those 2 lines!. A spouse of a distant cousin calls them all those little piglet lines!. However, they are just as much a part of you as your Y & Mitochondrial lines are!. DNA testing companies are working to use Autosomal but it is more complicated!. Your blood, bones, saliva, skin all contain your DNA!.Www@QuestionHome@Com In Australia, the Blood Bank offers a service where you they can trace your background through your blood!. Apparently, the blood of different races has different markers and these markers (or whatever they are really called) are used to tell the "race" of a blood!.
