Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Some do, some don't!. It depends on what they think of their biological family and how much pressure their adoptive parents put on them!. Some adoptive parents don't want to explain why their name is Smith but their child's name is Jones every time they have to sign a permission form, library card application, report card !. !. !.

Children who are adopted because their parents died tend to keep the name they were born with!. Children who get taken from their family because of abuse, then adopted, tend to change their name and try to forget their original parents!.

Im adopted and i took my adoptive parents last name-- If I had not I dont think I wouldve ever really felt like part of the family- i would have always been different having a different last name!. Being adopted is hard enough without always having to explain why your last name is different from your other family members!. The last thing an adopted kids wants is to always have to reinurate the fact that they were adopted!. Its really embarrassing especially for children!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think they do, because they're a part of the family that adopted them!.
