Question: How do you look up newspapers from Texas from the 1940's!?
Ellis County to be exactWww@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
You'd have to go to the library there and reel through the microfilm, or subscribe to Ancestry!.com's Newspaper Archives and hope they had the newspaper from Ellis County!. There isn't a free site on the Internet that has them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you are in Texas, you can have your library order the microfilm or take a trip to the State Library in Austin

If you aren't in Texas go to your local library and ask for an inter loan library loan of the mircofilm of Ellis County Newspapers for that period, from the Texas State Library!.

also, either way, you can order the microfilm from your nearest Latter Day Saints (LDS) Church Family Center!. They charge around $3 for you to rent the film for 2 weeks (they keep it at the center)

You can also visit the www!.usgenweb!.org, Texas, Ellis site and there might be someone who would do a lookup for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try the following genealogical link:

You might also contact the following Ellis County newspapers to see if they have archives extending back to the 1940s:

Alvarado Post: http://www!.alvaradopost!.com

Ellis County Chronicle: http://www!.ellliscountychronicle!.com

Ennis Journal: http://www!.ennisjournal!.com

Midlothian Mirror: http://www!.midlothianmirror!.com/

Waxahachie Daily Light: 200 W!. Marvin St!., Waxahachie, TX 75165

also, since Ellis County is a county directly South of Dallas County, try the following links:

http://www!.dallaslibrary!.org/CHS/cgc!.htm -- a link specifically for genealogical help at the Dallas Public Library

http://www!.smu!.edu/libraries -- Southern Methodist University

You might also check the University of Texas in Austin Library System: http://www!.lib!.utexas!.edu

Finally, the Texas Collection at Baylor University in Waco has collected archives specifically pertaining to Texas for many years:

P!. S!. Bastropc, there isn't a Texas State Library per say; Texas State University in San Marcos (the old Southwestern State) is south of the University of Texas' Austin campus, and it probably doesn't have as complete a collection as the UT campus does!. All these sources, of course, can be accessed through interlibrary loan!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you're looking for something specific that is related to genealogy, try contacting the Ellis County volunteer for Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness (www!.raogk!.org)!. They should be able to help!.

(Not Houston! Waxahachie, Ennis, Midlothian, etc!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

That's Houston right!? the downtown library has an excellent genealogical section - expect to look at a whole lot of microfilm!

Good Luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
