Question: Trying to determine parents of John D!. Cook abt!. 1841!?
I'm trying to determine parents of John D!. Cook born about 1841 in NC!.!.
He and wife moved to Walker Co!. GA around 1862!.

I've located a death certifcate on line with parents listed as Donald and Alice Cook!.!.This is the only reference to these parents I find!.!.with all other information pointing to a David Cook m!. Eliza Watts!.

The information given at the time of death appears to be incorrect for I cannot find a Donald Cook or an Alice!.!.plus, there is handwritten information from years ago indicating the above mentioned parents!.!.

Thanks for your help!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

On ancestry!.com there is a family tree with:

John D!. Cook, born 1841, NC
Married - Elizabeth Huffman 9-9-1862 (This is not sourced)!. B

There is a sourced death certificate for John D!. Cook in Georgia!. Cert#10725-H, Died 02-03-1926!. There wasn't a copy and it didn't list parents!. Based on the information below, you will most likely find it is not the John D!. Cook you are looking for!.

The parents listed on the tree are David Cook, 1811-1849 and Alsie Watts, 1818-1852 (I believe this death date is incorrect - see info below)!. Married 05-19-1839!. There weren't any sources for David or Alsie!. I did find a death Certificate for a Riley Cook in NC listing David and Alsie as the parents!.

There is an 1880 Census for Chestnut Flat, Walker, GA, listing:

John Cook 38
Elizabeth 35
Frank 17
Louisa 15
Fannie 13
Azah 11
Elizabeth 9
Charles 5
Sarah 3
William 2
Amos 9 months

1900 Census, Chestnut Flat, Walker, GA
John Cook, 58
Elizabeth 53
William 23
Amos 20
Addie 15
Ann 13

1910 Census, Chestnut Flat, Walker, GA
John Cook, 68
Elizabeth 63

I also found an 1850 Census record form Burke, NC!. The taker's writing was difficult to read but here's what I found:

Elsey Cook - 28 (I believe it was an E rather than an A)
John 8
Mary 7
Aaron 6 Eli 5
Riley 3
David 1

You'll note David Cook wasn't listed!. This census also makes sense if you match it with the death certificate for Riley Cook with parents named David and Alsie!. If you look at the 1860 Census your first answer provided, David must have passed away prior to 1850 and Alsie remarried Chapman!. You can get a pretty good idea of when she remarried based on the ages of the children listed on the ages of the kids!.

(Remember, census takers often spelled names incorrectly!. They sometimes didn't even talk to the family members themselves but would ask a neighbor for information!. Even dates/ages, etc!. can be wrong!.)

Hope this helps!.

If you have any additional information and would like to edit, I will check back and do more research!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mary Cook 17
Aaron Cook 16
