If you are not a male, it is unlikely you can tell using your own DNA!. You need to have a brother tested!. You do not inherit mtDNA or mitochondrial DNA from your father!. I am very familiar with your situation because my father was adopted and is deceased!. However, I am able to test myself!. I have a haplotype and a projected haplogroup near many in greater Russia/Eastern Europe!. I had no exposure to that culture in my life!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

In any adoption, the birth parents have TONS of paperwork!. Chances are, if you can get his adoption papers (and as a child of a deceased adopted person, you can!. Especially becuase you need to know medical history)!. Those should have ethnicicity on them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ancestry!.com has a DNA program!. You can check with them!. As to what it all means, I have to confess it's beyond me!Www@QuestionHome@Com
