I don't deal in guesswork!.
However, if you have ancestors from the British Isles, you also have Roman, Germanic, Norse, etc!. If from France, then also Germanic and Roman; if from Spain, definitely Roman, hence Greek and Trojan (Turkcik)!.
Try all these:
You should start by asking all your living relatives about family history!. Then, armed with that information, you can go to your public library and check to see if it has a genealogy department!. Most do nowadays; also, don't forget to check at community colleges, universities, etc!. Our public library has both www!.ancestry!.com and www!.heritagequest!.com free for anyone to use (no library card required)!.
Another place to check out is any of the Mormon's Family History Centers!. They allow people to search for their family history (and, NO, they don't try to convert you)!.
A third option is one of the following websites:

Cyndi's has the most links to genealogy websites, whether ship's passenger lists, ancestors from Africa, ancestors from the Philippines, where ever and whatever!.

Of course, you may be successful by googling: "john doe, born 1620, plimouth, massachusetts" as an example!.

Good luck and have fun!

Then there is the DNA test; if you decide you want to REALLY know where your ancestors came from opt for the DNA test!. Besides all the mistakes that officials commonly make, from 10% to 20% of birth certificates list the father wrong; that is, mama was doing the hanky-panky and someone else was the REAL father!. That won't show up on the internet or in books; it WILL show up in DNA!.
I used www!.familytreedna!.com which works with the National Geographics Genotype Program!.

Here are some answers to some commonly asked questions on the genealogy forum, that those uneducated in the rules of genealogy will ask!. Genealogy is the study of your ancestors!.!.!.!.!.!.!.your family tree!. Obviously, this is different for everyone as we do not all have the same family tree!. The fact you even asked this question this way clearly shows your ignorance to the basic rules and terminology of genealogy!. Your ancestry is basically the same thing!. It is who each and every one of your ancestors were!. Ethnicity is more like what you are asking about!. However, MANY ethnic backgrounds have MANY different traits that are the same as many other ethnic backgrounds!. We cannot tell you your ethnic background based on your description!. Even if you posted a picture, we cannot tell you this by appearance!. I assume, since you are not educated on the rules of genealogy, that you also are one of those people that think the history or origin of your last name is the same as YOUR family history!. That is a myth!. The history of your name means NOTHING in regards to the history of your family, your ancestors!. And, I would venture to guess you are one of those people that think all people with the same last name are related!. That is another myth that those uneducated in the rules of genealogy tend to believe, but it is not true!. And before you even ask, I can go ahead and tell you that your nationality is that of what ever country you are born and raised in!. It does not matter where your ancestors are from, or where your own parents are from!. If you are born and raised in France, your nationality is french, even if every one of your ancestors for the last 1000 years were Italian!. You would be French, with Italian heritage!. AND, genealogy has NOTHING to do with genetics, so we cannot tell you what color hair or eyes your kids will have!. Genealogists are not geneticists!. And we cannot tell you the laws about changing your name!. We are not lawyers!. Just because our family trees are full of names does not make us trained to deal with all issues regarding names!. Changing your name is a legal issue and we cannot dispense legal advice without a license!.

Not being rude here!. Just educating you so you do not post another question that makes you look foolish about a subject you know nothing about!. Typically, genealogists are serious about their work and do not play these guessing games!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mmkay, first off you're not a "genealogy"!. And second of all, many people have dark hair and dark eyes and they have very different ancestry!. So unless you trace back your family yourself, then I don't think we can help you!. Sorry, =/!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Typically genealogists also have a sense of humor and are kind to people, however the last answer proved that not everyone with a modicum of intellect also possesses a sense of decency!.,Www@QuestionHome@Com
