My Husband and I un-earthed an old Grave stone on our Property!. The Person on the stone died in 1857, We are trying to find the origin of the family name and possibly someone who is a family member that would be interested in this find!. I believe I found him, as I verified Rochester is in Monroe County: 1850 United States Federal Census about Anthony Jacobus Name: Anthony Jacobus Age: 63 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1787 Birth Place: New Jersey Gender: Male Home in 1850(City,County,State): Greece, Monroe, New York Household Members: Name Age Anthony Jacobus 63 (occupation listed as "Laborer") Margaret Jacobus 61 Peter Jacobus 31 (Laborer) Rhoda Jacobus 23 Cornelia Paine 20 Eliza Paine 43 Gilbert Paine 14 Rinear Paine 53 Sarah Paine 18 Please let me know if you'd like to see the original image, I could send it as an attachment if you provide your address!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I looked on the census of 1850 and Anthony Jacobus lived in Greece, New York (Monroe County) which doesn't appear to be too far from Rochester!. He was married and his wife's name was Margaret!. If I were you I'd go to the local Historical Society and find out who lived on your property in the 1850's and what connection they had with Anthony Jacobus!. The Historical Society in Monroe County might also be able to give you some information on his descendants!. Death certificates usually have a signature from the next-of-kin, which will give a starting point for you to look for family!. The Latter-Day Saints have an extensive database that is free to search: http://www!.familysearch!.org There you might be able to find records of the deceased as well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com If it's in North America, you won't find much in the way of death certificates!. We weren't good about keeping death records back then!. But you can go to the Register of Deeds office in your county and trace the ownership of the land!. That will give you real names to work with and something concrete that you can trace with wills, military and census records!. Then you can snoop for marriage records and local histories on the pioneer families in your area!.
