I imagine you're talking about WW1!. All I can think of is that seeing the Anzacs were fighting alongside the British, first at Gallipoli then on the Western Front, there would have been a certain amount of secondment between regiments where it was locally necessary!. I found this which you might find interesting which mentions two British soldiers 'on loan' to the Anzacs, you might be able to get more information about how often this sort of thing happened from the Imperial War Museum in London!.

it seems strange how a british soldier!? or was he an officer!? if he was an officer there where some british officers who specialized in chain of command ie:liason(polotics) they made sure that the orders where followed out since the head honcho was british!.not australian although the australian general could have had the right not to complie with british whishes !.which he nearly did but the orders from the high command from australia was to follow orders of kitcherner!.the british honcho!. or you granfather could have been a specialist in other things like bomb making or even a medic!? you havent filled us out what he was in the army!? by the way where did he fight!? gallipoli!? in the 1st ww or was it in the asian region during the 2ndww!? he was old enough to fight in both wars!? you need to get moreinformation as to how and where he fought!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
