There isn't a website where you can type in your last name and find relatives that are related to you!. Even pay sites won't do this for you!. If you’re just getting started, before beginning an on-line search, gather up all the information you can from family members about your family history so you can narrow your search!. A great site to help you begin learning how to research and organize the information you collect and gather is http://www!.findingdulcinea!.com/guides/Fa!.!.!.
There are many genealogical sites that are free!. One thing you should remember about the information you find that others have compiled is – you must research the historical records for yourself for accuracy!. The compilers’ may have just copied what others have found!. Make sure the information is correct by viewing official documents, i!.e!., marriage, birth, census records, etc!. yourself!. Here are some very good free sites:

I really hate it when misguided adolescents think you can just go on some website, enter a last name, and find all your relatives, for free!.

First, it is NOT true that anyone and everyone with your last name are related to you!.

Second, that is NOT how genealogy works!.

Third, genealogy research is not always free!.

In order to find out who are your relatives, you have to do your family tree, the RIGHT way, which can take years; then do the family tree of the person you are interested in, which can also take years, and then see if you and that person share any ancestors!.

REAL genealogy research takes years and years of work, is not all easy, free, or on-line!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Remember the expression "garbage in, garbage out" that is sometimes applied to computer data as you attempt to fill out the pedigree charts of your family tree!. You need to start with accurate birth, marriage, and death dates as well as places of birth and death for your parents and grandparents and your aunts and uncles on both sides of the family!. That way, you can compare this information against possible relatives in censuses* and vital records!. Most amateur genealogists start by looking at the records in a family bible (or other place where family records are kept), and then they go to census records and records of births, marriages, and deaths (such as the Social Security Index)!. You have to have reliable data to begin with before you can attempt to find a web site with a search engine that will help you make an educated guess about who are your ancestors!.

*Census records that give family relationships are available from 1850 to 1930 in the United States!. The Census for England and Wales stops in 1901!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
