Question: Is Celtic an old scottish thing or is it Irish!?

Picts were the aboriginal inhabitants of Scotland!.Scotland was named after the Scotti tribe who were from Ireland!. Celts originated in Central Europe, there were Celtic cultures in Brittany and Cornwall, as well as Wales and Scotland!.They were pushed further into these territories by subsequent settlers and invaders!. Celtic culture absorbed the Pictish culture in Scotland!. So a bit of a tangle really!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Celts, at one time, covered most of Western Europe!. Belgium, Spain, Portugal and France both have significant Celtic heritage, for example!. Roman expansion drove the Celts steadily Westward and North, as did later German invasions!. As the Romans didn't conquer all of the British Isles, and neither did the subsequent German invasions, the areas that were on the fringes of those conquests bare the most undiluted Celtic languages and customs!.

The Celts of Ireland (probably immigrated from Spain) crossed over to what is now Scotland!. Wales, Devon and Cornwall probably had some migration from Ireland as well as retaining their earlier Celtic populations in some degree!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Celts were the factions of northern Europeans covering all of the british isles ( sometimes called the Britons ), France ( sometimes called the Gauls ), Germany and up as far as norway, they were under a lot of pressure from the Romans and usually out manoeuvred, and often challenged the attacker's leader to fight man on man for a territory!.

Warriors from Norway regions would fight for payment, they would fight naked and painted blue from head to toe, like scenes from Brave-heart!. Later the Roman war machines drove the Celtish territory up into the highlands and into wales, Ireland and north europe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
