Question: How long do schools keep there records on pupils!? I want my fathers school records!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
In the UK, try the local County Record Offices!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

3 months to 350 years, depending on the school, the country, the parish rules, the size of their basement, what kind of school it is, state, federal and Queen's laws and what kind of records!.

You can look up doctoral dissertations from the 1600's in some European colleges!. Some elementary schools keep attendance records for a year and toss them!. Most colleges will keep grades until the chance of someone needing a transcript have gone, which means up to 60 years!.

Write to the school and ask!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Contact the school board for that county!. I don't think the schools themselves actually keep the records!. Once a person graduates, the records go to the county school board office!. This is in part because schools do not have the facilities to store years and years of old student records, and also schools sometimes close and are no longer available to even contact!. Even then, to get the records, you probably have to meet certain criteria, as they are not public information!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In the US, school records are not destroyed, they're just archived!. That's so you can get a transcipt whenever you need one to prove your educational credentials!. Contact the School District's Administration Center and ask how your dad can get a copy of his transcript!. They won't give it to you, but they will release it to him with a signed request!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can get intercert and leaving cert results reprinted and posted to you from the board of education for a small fee!. They will send it to you in certificate form!. I'm not sure about termly or yearly report cards for your fathers generation!. You might have to enquire at the school!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that you would most likely find the answer at the Area Education Office, here in the UK, the ruling on this kind of thing varies from county to county!.
Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
