Ancestors are parents!.!.grandparents!.!.!. straight up the "line"!. If they are not a parent of some kind, then they are relatives, but not ancestors!. Usually, ancestors are already dead (not always)!.

descendants come "down"!. children, grandchildren, gr grandchildren!. Always some kind of "child"!. Unless you already have kids, you don't have any of these!. Nephews and nieces are not "straight" down, so they are still relatives!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your ancestors are your parents, their parents & back to as far as you can go with recorded history / records!. Your descendants will be or are your children, your grandchildren, your great granchildren & all the rest of your famil that will be born after you die!.'

Hope you understand the difference now!. You can find records for your ancestors but your descendants have to come after you, etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They are sometimes referred to as "ascendants" and "descendants"!.
On a sheet of paper, one's ascendants (ancestors) are up (or towards the top of the sheet of paper) and their descendants are BELOW their name!.
Or, ancesors are such persons as parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, et al!.
Descendants are your children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, et al!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Descendants are those who are born AFTER you--meaning your children, grandchildren, etc!.
Ancestors are those who lived BEFORE you--your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents--and who have passed away (even if it were only a year ago)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
