Sparks, so get called Sparky all the timeWww@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, my maiden name was Leines (pronounced like Linus)!. I got very used to spelling it out every time I gave it to somebody, so before I got married I thought it was unique - - yet a pain! I always wished I had a more common name that everybody knew how to spell!.

But now that I'm researching that branch of the family, I find it quite uncommon and therefore the research is much easier!. :o)Www@QuestionHome@Com

For the US my name is not very common but I suppose in the Czech Republic, or what used to be known as Bohemia it is fairly common!. It means "barrel maker" or the English version would be Cooper!.

Now you just have to find someone that knows a little Bohemian language!. There was a fairly famous football player from about 1947 to 1957 with my last name!. His first name was Chuck!. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles!. I am certain he is no relation but if you figure that out, you have my last name!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Flurer, pronounced Flu-r!. It's from the old medieval Norman name de Fleury!. Somehow the name migrated to Germany to be Fluhrer, and so my relatives immigrated from a town in southeastern Germany!. They settled farms in central Illinois, and we've been in the area ever since!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nope, my surname is very common, I love it because it advertises my ethnicity where ever I go, and that's something I'm proud of!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah, I'd suppose this is the best section to put this question!.

I actually have a pretty common surname for where I'm from (London),but where I live now (rural Illinois) it's more uncommon!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
