Question: Help me out with my ancestors!?
Okay, so my stemom's recently pregnate and we've decided if its a girl, the name will be Lily!. I asked 'why lily!?' and my dad and stepmom said they were at the library curious about the Schlumpf heratige and they ran across a story about a man [Carl] who was 45 and married a woman [her name we were unable to make out but it looked like it started with an A] who was 36 which is weird because my fathers name is Chris [starts with a c, like Carl] and my stepmoms name is Annete [starts with an A] and they had a daughter named Lily!.
So I'm really interested to find out all I can about Carl, his wife, and Lily!. But haven't found anything yet!. I'm going to the library soon, to see if I can find anything else!. If you know anything about Carl Schlumpf, his wife, and Lily Schlumpf, please share!. I'd love to find out as much as possible about this family!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In general, try:
You should start by asking all your living relatives about family history!. Then, armed with that information, you can go to your public library and check to see if it has a genealogy department!. Most do nowadays; also, don't forget to check at community colleges, universities, etc!. Our public library has both www!.ancestry!.com and www!.heritagequest!.com free for anyone to use (no library card required)!.
Another place to check out is any of the Mormon's Family History Centers!. They allow people to search for their family history (and, NO, they don't try to convert you)!.
A third option is one of the following websites:

Cyndi's has the most links to genealogy websites, whether ship's passenger lists, ancestors from Africa, ancestors from the Philippines, where ever and whatever!.

Of course, you may be successful by googling: "john doe, born 1620, plimouth, massachusetts" as an example!.

Good luck and have fun!

Check out this article on five great free genealogy websites:

Then there is the DNA test; if you decide you want to REALLY know where your ancestors came from opt for the DNA test!. Besides all the mistakes that officials commonly make, from 10% to 20% of birth certificates list the father wrong; that is, mama was doing the hanky-panky and someone else was the REAL father!. That won't show up on the internet or in books; it WILL show up in DNA!.
I used www!.familytreedna!.com which works with the National Geographics Genotype Program!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would not base this finding of Carl and Lily as your Schlumpf family just because they have your last name!. You need to start with yourself and then work backwards!. However, with that said, retain this information from the library for future reference!.

Genealogy is a fun journey, however, takes alot of work and curiosity!. Read about learning genealogy first!. Kimberly Powell over at about!.com is a good start!.

Good Luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The most obvious way to find Carl, would be asking them what they used, to find this Carl AND if they had some way to determine if Carl actually is/ is not related!. The fact that he has the same name, is not any guarantee of that!.
If you are interested in actual ancestors!.!. you might want to identify dad's father/ grandfather/ gr grandfather with real records, and see if they are in the census!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
