Question: Is their a cite where you can get y our family tree!?

Yes and no!. Yes because if you go far enough back, your ancestors are my ancestors!. No because unless someone closely related to you has already posted your family tree (or close to it, such as a first cousin, etc!.) you will not find your tree!.

Me, I have been both fortunate and unfortunate!. My Mom wrote a lot about her family tree; my Dad's oldest brother wrote about his family tree!. And several first cousins and uncles wrote about their family tree, some of them being on the web!. By the time I go back 5 or 6 generations, there are so many websites and genealogy books having parts of my family tree!. But, one of my g-g-grandmothers, who died in 1915 in Kansas City, is a complete unknown!. (Just to give you an idea what to expect in your own search; you might fare better or not as well!.)
Here then are some sites:

You should start by asking all your living relatives about family history!. Then, armed with that information, you can go to your public library and check to see if it has a genealogy department!. Most do nowadays; also, don't forget to check at community colleges, universities, etc!. Our public library has both www!.ancestry!.com and www!.heritagequest!.com free for anyone to use (no library card required)!.
Another place to check out is any of the Mormon's Family History Centers!. They allow people to search for their family history (and, NO, they don't try to convert you)!.
A third option is one of the following websites:

http://www!.census!.gov/

http://www!.rootsweb!.com/

http://www!.ukgenweb!.com/

http://www!.archives!.gov/

http://www!.familysearch!.org/

http://www!.accessgenealogy!.com/!.!.!.

http://www!.cyndislist!.com/

http://www!.geni!.com/

Cyndi's has the most links to genealogy websites, whether ship's passenger lists, ancestors from Africa, ancestors from the Philippines, where ever and whatever!.

Of course, you may be successful by googling: "john doe, born 1620, plimouth, massachusetts" as an example!.

Good luck and have fun!

Then there is the DNA test; if you decide you want to REALLY know where your ancestors came from opt for the DNA test!. Besides all the mistakes that officials commonly make, from 10% to 20% of birth certificates list the father wrong; that is, mama was doing the hanky-panky and someone else was the REAL father!. That won't show up on the internet or in books; it WILL show up in DNA!.
I used www!.familytreedna!.com which works with the National Geographics Genotype Program!.

Here is a partial list of books I have that give broad, general backgrounds:
“Mapping Human History: Discovering the Past Through Our Genes” by Steve Olson
"Genealogy 101" by Barbara Renick and
"Trace Your Roots with DNA: Using Genetic Tests to Explore Your Family Tree" by Megan Smolenyak Smolenyak and Ann Turner!.

“Before the Flood: The Biblical Flood as a Real Event and How it Changed the Course of Civilization” by Ian Wilson!.

It is interesting to note that Mr!. Olson claims that every one alive on earth today is descended from Nefertiti, Confucius and Julius Caesar!. That being the case, you would sooner or later find at least part of your family tree in a published work or on the net!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nothingusefulllearnedatschool gave you a lot of good information!.

also, understand, even if you find some of your family in the trees on website, you should verify the information, no matter whether it is a free website or one you pay to subscribe!. The trees are submitted by folks like you and me and usually are not documented or poorly documented!. You might see different info on the same people from different subscribers!. Then you will see the same info on the same people from different subscribers, but that is no guarantee at all it is correct!. A lot of people copy without verifying!. The information can be useful as CLUES as to where to get the documentation!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
