I have searched on the National Burial Index 2nd!.edition!.
for William Slate, no Slates came up but there are 3 Slades
for Suffolk in the early 1880s!.
So I would suggest that you consider looking for the alternative of Slade also!.
The Index is nowhere near complete, it is "a work in progress", but short of searching through every parish burials register for Suffolk, there is no other way of finding him, unless a Suffolk family history society has transcribed all of the registers!.
