In the early state censuses between 1811-1818 he's listed as the only white person in the household!. There was one free man of color and 19 slaves!.

1820 was the only year where he was head of household in a federal census and listed by name!. In that census, there were no other whites in the household, just slaves!. The LDS only has records of his parents!. Even the Mississippi state historian's biography of him doesn't mention a wife or family!. He didn't show up in the 1830 census, though we know he was back in Virginia at the time!. The reason, strangely enough, is that he wasn't a landowner, so he only showed up as one of those slashes as an adult male!. There's also nothing in his Library of Congress biography as a US Congressmen!.

So the answer is that no one documented a wife or children so we don't know!. But the fact that someone so prominent doesn't have even one documentation of a wife or child also lends me to believe either he had children and they didn't live into adulthood or he didn't have children!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
