Why hasn't the family contacted the director of the funeral home!?
Does state law prevent a family member, other than the surviving spouse, from obtaining one!?

Several years ago, I obtained a death certificate from the State of Florida, for my dad's 1st wife and I 'm not even her daughter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ancestry does not have copies of death certificates!. It would have the social security death index, and POSSIBLY an obit!. The wife has full authority to keep others from access to it!.

responding to braves!.!.!. yes, in most states, spouse or children ARE legally the only persons who have authority for a death cert!. You getting one, does not translate into it being normal, or possible!. And, with the high rise in id theft!.!. it is become more restricted every day!. I do understand the family position, but that does not change what is normal law!.
As for the other poster, his reply is violating yahoo as well, in soliciting business using the forum!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For you to get a copy of it, since you are NOT an authorized individual to have it, is a HIPPA violation, punishable by fines up to $250,000 and prison time!. Is it worth it!?

Cause of death is medical information!. ALL person's, dead or alive, medical information is protected by HIPPA privacy laws to keep unauthorized people from getting it!. The wife is the only LEGALLY authorized person to have the death certificate!. His wife and doctors are the only people LEGALLY allowed to have his medical information!. Parents of adult children are NOT legally allowed to that child's medical information!.

If you got the death certificate for a lady you are not the spouse or child of, then you obtained it illegally!. You must have lied to get it!. You have broken FEDERAL laws and are now subjected to being arrested, fined, and/or imprisoned in a federal prison!. When you do illegal things, it is best to keep your mouth shut and not post it on the internet for all others to know what you did!.

Do unto others!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.

If you go around getting federally protected records of other people, then you should expect other people to get access to your personal records!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
