and they are free!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Whoever told you that is having a laugh!.

There is not a single country on the planet who have birth certificates online for people who could still be alive today!. Anything more recent that 100years ago won't be online at all, and even those 100year plus certificates that are online have to be paid for!.

If you think you can view a birth certificate for free then you are very sadly mistaken!. If such a thing was true and people could view other peoples birth certificates for free, internet fraudsters and identity thieves would have a field day!. It'd be a free-for-all in bogus passport applications, loans and credit cards!. It doesn't bear thinking about really!. I sure has hell wouldn't like anyone online being able to bring up MY birth certificate for free!.

It's this not-so-little law known as the Data Protection Act, or variations thereof, depending where in the world you live!. I can't believe people are getting 'thumbs down' for this!. I might as well join the queue!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ancestry has some birth indexes for some US states, but they are subscription data bases!.

Birth certificates are usually kept private, If, for instance, your father is "Unknown - probably white", would you want the world to know your mom was a tramp!?

Or, to take another example, if your parents married in June and you were born in November, would you want the world to know they were fooling around before the wedding!? Especially if your dad was a minister or a high school principal!? (If he was a movie star, no one would care!.)

Secondly, banks ask for your birth date and mother's maiden name!. If a crook had those facts he might be able to steal your money!.

Don't believe everything your friends tell you about the Internet!.

If you post another question in this category, mention the country and state / province / shire / department you live in!. If you are in the USA, you made all those nice Brits waste their time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Absolutely and completely hilarious!.
You got FIVE answers, every single one of them is correct, and all five got thumbs down!.
Once again, to back up everyone else!.!.!. you were told wrong!. UK or US will not have your birth certificate on the internet!. In either country, getting a copy of your birth certificate is both restricted to certain authorized persons, and it is not free!.
Whoever gave you the information is gullible!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Every one who answered has told you the same thing, you cant!. I doubt whether this kind of information will ever be made readily available to the public, because of the DPA, it's there for a purpose to stop identity theft and to safe guard out personal data, what would be the sense in making the information freely available!.
Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you got bad information!. You can usually find and print a request form online, but you have to take it in or mail it with a couple of forms of ID!. They are not free!.

Try looking for the request at your states division of vital records, usually a part of the state health department!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
