If you do, you are dooming her to a lifetime of being recorded as "Alice" by mistake, and of people who see just her name in a signature or directory assuming she is a man!. Her classmates will call her "Island", after "Ellis Island!." The common place to throw a maiden name is the middle name; "John Morgan Smith" or "George Walker Bush"!. Emily Ellis or Mary Ellis or Jennifer Ellis would all work, to my admittedly tone-deaf ear!. Life is sometimes like a hike where you have to carry a sack of rocks!.
