On other sites, I saw spellings of JANES, JEYNES, JEENS, as well as Jaynes)Www@QuestionHome@Com

You have to do quite a bit of lateral thinking for genealogy so I would urge you to consider alternative spellings of the surname!. I subscribe to Ancestry and have had a quick look on the 1871 and 1881 UK Census for you and there doesn't seem to be a male born at the right time in Gloustershire with Jaynes as the surname or appropriate first name!. A lot of our ancestors in the 1800s could not read or write, so they were pretty much at the mercy of registrars and census enumerators who recorded the names as heard, and our ancestors could not check the spelling!. So I'm wondering if your ancestor could have been recorded as Jaines or James!.
The birth, registration district and occupation should give you some clues, plus middle names passed down in families, so if you want to post again with this information you may be able to get some more help!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's the same database which is replicated on Ancestry anyway, only It's often more up-to-date!.

if it isn't transcribed then you can look at original images on there without paying charges to Ancestry too!.
