You're probably looking at the SSDI!. You need to look for the death certificate!. If you want to send me the name, DOB, DOD and place of residence I'll see if there's another resource that has the full Date of Death online!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you're in the U!.S!. you can order the death certificate online from whichever state your ancestor came from!. You are requred to be a close relative for most of these though!. In some cases such as Missouri and West Virginia the death certificates are offered for free on the internet as downloadable pictures, but in most states you have to order them and pay a fee that varies considerably from state to state!. You can find each state's website through Google searches!. Try to find historical societies rather than official government pages since they're more likely to be inexpensive if not free!.

Apart from the exact date of death a death certificate also contains information regarding the cause of death, place of death, place of burial, name of attending physician, age at time of death so can find out at least approximate birth date, spouse's name, and parents' names!. Sometimes how long the deceased was married or was a resident of where they died is also included!. This information, particularly the names of the parents can be quite helpful for genealogical research!.

Generally death certificates that are 50 or more years old are much easier to access and cheaper than more recent ones due to privacy laws and fears of identity theft!. also, most states didn't require them before 1900, but in some cases older ones going back into the early 1800s can be found held at the county rather than the state level!. For stuff earlier than that you should try looking at church baptismal records as they are usually quite useful for this purpose and go much further back!. I'm not sure how to find those online though, you would probably have to travel to the actual church and search their records there in person!.

I Hope that Helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com
