I have and it's a wonderful past time, but addictive!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It IS addictive! All of my family think I'm crazy, but I remind them that in 30 years they might just be grateful for what I've done!.

I've been incredibly lucky though, as I don't have many common names in my tree, which means that when I've found someone in the census, 70% of the time, I know it's them; straight off!.

I haven't found fortune or fame yet, but I prefer to think that my ancestors built up my country, and I respect them for that!. I love researching my family, but my European side is giving me no end of trouble!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love it!
My father's paternal family were really easy to trace as they haven't moved out of a 15 mile radius in 600 years! Similarly my father's maternal line was easy too!.!.!.the best way to do it is find a 'link' member, for that strand I had a Police Constable in my hometown, which took me back all the way to 1400!.
My mother's side has proved more elusive!. Having Great-Grandparents born after 1901 has proved tricky to trace!.!.!.I'm going to have to wait until 2011 to continue with that particular line!. What was really helpful was the Scottish strand of my family, If anyone has Scottish roots, scotlandspeople!.org are a brilliant resource as you can access full marriage records stating mother and father names of the bride and groom, something that you can't with the english system!.
I must admit I was a little dissappointed to learn that almost every member of my ancestry was either an agricultural labourer or a domestic servant!.!.!.like everyone I wanted scandal and uproar!.!.!.but to no avail! However, it is nice to know that part of me is always going to be bound to those who have come before and have been good, honest workers!Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, to many skeletons! From the things that I already know, I don't think I want find out anything else!. (My dad's grandfather had three wives, all named "Elizabeth"!. He got mad at one of the "Elizabeths" and kicked her to death when she was pregnant!. "1901")Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have searched and searched and searched!.!.!.On my Dad's side, I have ONE THIN LINE back to the early 1400s in Germany; on my Mom's side, I have gone back to ancient Rome and beyond!.
But, of course, most of my ancestors are unknown to me!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
