This is driving me nuts trying to figure out the relationship!. Here's the situation!.!.!.John & Mary have a baby named Candy!. John & Mary divorce and John marrys Linda!. LInda & John have a baby name Max, then Max has a daughter named Molly!. What relationshop is Candy to Molly!? Thank you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Half aunt!. Candy & Max = half brother / half sister Charles & Molly = half first cousns ("Charles" is the child Candy may have some day!.) Molly is half-niece to Candy, Candy is half-aunt to Molly!. Step is wrong!. If Linda had a child from another marriage, "Lucille", Lucille and Candy would be step-sisters, and everyone else would be step- something, through step-father, step-mother, step-aunt, step-cousin, etc!. In practice, no one but a genealogist showing off would use the term "half" for anyone but a sibling!. If Molly likes Candy, she will call her "Aunt"!. If she doesn't, she will call her "Someone related to that lout my mother married by mistake!." To show you how far genealogists will go to show off, I know some people who are (drum roll) >>> half first cousins five times removed !!! (trumpet tootle) to president John Adams!. I have a similar situation--I had 3 half-brothers I'd never met, and in 2006, I found out one of them had a daughter who was brutally murdered in a small town in NW Missouri, about an hour from where I live!.
