Do you guys believe in nameology!? Not that I'll seek for help by an nameologist!.
- I'll find out something that i really like myself!.

I always hated my last name and found it pretty stupid and I hated when teachers called out my lastname in highschool!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

my half sister changed her name (to her step fathers so it wasnt quite like this but still!.!.)

it was what she wanted so she did it - however, it caused some problems between her and our dad!. id think about how your parents will feel first - explain to them your reasoning behind it otherewise they might think it's something against them

i also despise my last name - however, the one good think about it is that there's so few of us, it makes me quite unique as we're the only family with the surname in Wales (go to Surrey and its a whole other story tho!!)

other than that, i think that if its what you want to do, go for it!. just think about it reallym well, cos you dont want to decide at a later date that you dont like it anymore!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do

Years ago, when I was in high school, a friend of mine really disliked his last name partly because it was Ukrainian and partly because he disliked his father who was rather strict!. He considered changing his name to his mother's maiden name!. It was an English name!.

A few of his friends including a history teacher convinced him not to change his name but to be proud of it because of the tremendous contributions made to our country by Ukrainian immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries!.

He decided not to change his name!.

On the other hand, I have come across a few people who, while studying family history, discovered that they preferred a historical spelling of their name and changed it to the "old" spelling!. An example could be changing Smith to Smythe or some such thing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are lots of ramifications to a name change; family (and friends) relationships; all that legal stuff (notifying the draft board, social security, the IRS), etc!. But, it is your life; if you want to change your name, go for it!.
But talk it out with folks first!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
