There are a bunch of Greeks, Jews, a little bit of everything!. Not sure what the origin of it is!.

I'm fairly sure he was Greek as his name was Kosmo or Cosmo, but is the last name originally Greek or is it an immigrant surname to Greece!?

One of my good friends has "Zakaria" as a surname and he's from Muslim descent!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Everyone I've found with that last name is Indian!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Looks like you're on the right track!. The name seems to have roots in the Mediterranean and Eastern European regions!.

Here's some information I found:

Georgian: Zakhari
Polish: Zachariasz
Finnish: Zakkaria
Old Greek, Modern Greek: Zaxarias [Zakarias]
Hungarian: Zakarias
English: Zechariah
Lithuanian:Zacharas
(Link to information is below!.)

So from this info, the spelling you have is the same as the Greek spelling!.

Not too sure if it's a surname original to the Mediterranean or if it's from somewhere else!.!.!.

Hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think of it as being Spanish!.!.!. give the "Z" an "S" sound and put the emphasis on the next to the last syllabol (it's a plural word with the "s" at the end)!.!.!. so the singular, in spanish would Zakaria!. Since some people think it's muslim, that would make sense because of the Muslim occupation of Spain in the 13th and 14th centuries!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
