Oh, yes! I want it, and I want it now, and it must be free!. Does that about sum it up!? (I hope so, because that is what I always want!.!.!.)
You should start by asking all your living relatives about family history!. Then, armed with that information, you can go to your public library and check to see if it has a genealogy department!. Most do nowadays; also, don't forget to check at community colleges, universities, etc!. Our public library has both www!.ancestry!.com and www!.heritagequest!.com free for anyone to use (no library card required)!.
Another place to check out is any of the Mormon's Family History Centers!. They allow people to search for their family history (and, NO, they don't try to convert you)!.
A third option is one of the following websites:

http://www!.familysearch!.org/

http://www!.accessgenealogy!.com/!.!.!.

Cyndi's has the most links to genealogy websites, whether ship's passenger lists, ancestors from Africa, ancestors from the Philippines, where ever and whatever!.

Of course, you may be successful by googling: "john doe, born 1620, plimouth, massachusetts" as an example!.

Good luck and have fun!

Then there is the DNA test; if you decide you want to REALLY know where your ancestors came from opt for the DNA test!. Besides all the mistakes that officials commonly make, from 10% to 20% of birth certificates list the father wrong; that is, mama was doing the hanky-panky and someone else was the REAL father!. That won't show up on the internet or in books; it WILL show up in DNA!.
I used www!.familytreedna!.com which works with the National Geographics Genotype Program!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sorry!. Genealogy is all about research (looking for records)!. It does not just pop up!.
It is a huge amount of fun and challenging, if you are willing to do the searching!. If you REALLY don't want to do that!.!. you won't get anything worthwhile!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sorry, there is no Genie in genealogy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you don't want to pay money, you are barking up the wrong tree!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you just want to dip into the water so to speak try the web site below, there is also a web site called rootsweb, you might just get addicted in which case it will cost some money at some point!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, you ARE barking up the wrong tree!.

Genealogy, like any hobby, will cost some money and time!. If you wanted to learn to play piano, you will have to pay for piano lessons!. If you want to collect china dolls, you will have to pay for them!. Genealogy is no exception!. While there are some free sites you can use, it will not give you everything you want or need!. You will have to use paid sites to get the REALLY good stuff!. AND, not everything is on-line!. You will have to do some REAL research off line!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.in the records basements of courts, parishes, libraries, etc!. which will cost money for travel in gas, lodging, copying records, etc!. Genealogy is NOT easy!. It will NOT pop up on line for you, all completed, 100% accurate, easy and free!. You are foolish to think so and you are insulting those of us who have been doing REAL genealogy work for years by insisting that we are wrong and you are right!. Obviously, you are uneducated about what real genealogy involves and too foolish to take the advice of those who are educated and experienced enough to know!.

I give thumbs up to Wendy, Joyce, and Bill!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

www!.ancestory!.com
I don't think there are any free genaology websites!. I believe you have to pay for them all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
