Meaning of my Armenian Last Name?

Question:My last name is Guiragossian.
Can anybody tell me what my ancestors were or what the meaning of Guiragossian is.
I know I'm Armenian. =]

The literal translation is "son of Guiragos". I tried finding Guiragos in any of the international baby name directories, but it's not there. What I did find is that the name is more than 1000 years old, and it's in both Armenia and Turkey. So it's possible the name came into being before the Ottomans overthrew the Greeks and just migrated in during one or another of the invasions.

im armenian, and the name doesn't mean anything i dont think. . . i just might not know. . .but anyways the name probably comes from the first person in your family to obtain that last name, meaning their first name at the time was Guiragos. I know that many Armenian children in the genocide had to make their last name like their first because they forgot their last name.
