Position:Home>Genealogy> Can I be proud of my Jamacian Ancestry?

Question:I know that it is way far back but here it is, I found out that in the 1600s my family came from Jamaica to the USA, the parents were born in England and the children were born and raised in Jamaica (one was to become my distant grandfather) and came to the USA when they were much older, again I know that they lived a long time ago, and they were white people too, but can I be roud of my Jamaican ancestry and embrace it or can I not even claim it?

That depends. If you work hard, play fair, shoot straight and tell the truth, any of your ancestors from Armenian to Zulu will be proud of you.

If you do what is easy instead of what is right, let others shoulder more than their share of the load, lie to women to get into their pants and shirk your duty, they will be ashamed of you.

Never doubt your ancestryno matter what it may be. I understand where you come from on this question but Jamaican is in your blood. I have the same problems with my roots but they are apart of me and I am proud of them.

I have never seen anyone who does genealogy, who is not happy to find facts about their ancestry. Its the challenge of learning.
I also know people who will never touch a computer, haven't seen their immediate family in 3 yrs, and couldn't tell you where their grandmother lived. And it does not matter to them.
One is not better than the other. YOU choose what you enjoy, and what you are proud of. You don't need to ask anyones permission.

You can claim it; you should be proud of it. I, too, have ancestors from Jamaica. Probably through the Mayflower, as Jamaica was one of the places the "Pilgrims" traded with.
