Adair has it right.. you do not provide enough details. You are 50/50 of your parents ancestry. Mom works, since she is not 'mixed' with any other culture. You need to define exactly what your father is (100%). It may be 25% of 4 different things.. which automatically would work to 1/8th of each of those for you. (1/8th is the same as 1/2 of 25%, if you convert to fractions). In order to come up with "your" 100%, you have to have all the pieces of the puzzle. I suppose that you would be 50% Korean from your mother, then 25% Swedish from your grandfather (I am assuming his parents were Swedish because you said your grandmother wasn't) and then 25% whatever your grandmother's heritage is, creating the 50% that you received from your father. However, to be honest, I believe it is really what DNA and genes that you ended up with that determine how much of each you received. :) You did not provide enough information. Lindsey has it broken down correctly: you are apparently 50% Korean, 25% Swedish, and 25% something else, or a mixture. I grew up thinking I was Welsh (my dad had heard that growing up), but it turns out the Welsh we though we were, was English, and he married a Scot, so the only non-English blood I have is Scottish. So according to what I've found, I'm 87.5% English and 12.5% Scottish. My ex-wife is 50% English, 25% Swedish and 25% Norwegian... so our daughter is ... jeez, I dunno. 87.5% British and 12.5% Scandinavian. Sheesh! My gf is 50% Italian, 50% French Canadian. Any kids we may have will be ... mixed up! It is easier to use fractions. You are 1/2 (each) of what your parents were. If they were not "all" something, you are 1/4 of what your grandparents were. If they were not "all" something, you are 1/8 of what your great-grandparents were. . . . You can add fractions; if your mom was 3/8th Cherokee and your dad 1/4 Cherokee, you are 3/16th from her and 1/8 from him, for 5/16th total. This ignores the fact that, for instance, "English" people can be part Anglo, Saxon, Jute, Pict, Roman, Roman mercenary from a WIDE number of places, Viking, Norman (Normans tended to be Viking daddys and French Mommys) . . . . The Swedes didn't get invaded as often (Who'd want to? Try to conquer a cold, harsh land full of tall bearded types who would raise long, pointed objections?) bu they roamed; as far as Constantinople. Some brought home wives or concubines, who added to the gene soup. You are probably as slender as a willow with hair as sleek and black as a raven's wing. Enjoy it. IF you are looking for percentages, forget it. There is no such thing as "100.0%" any thing! Humans are mutts. Read: "Mapping Human History: Discovering the Past Through Our Genes" by Steve Olson, who on pp. 46 - 47 says that everyone alive on earth today is descended from EVERYONE alive on earth a mere 1600 years ago; he further states that everyone alive today is descended from Nefertiti, Confucius, and Julius Caesar (not through Julia, but through his illegitimate children). So, forget percentages: besides, the Swedes were back aways Vikings...And they got around! IF you want to find out WHERE your ancestors came from, opt for a DNA test. I used www.familytreedna.com, the best. |
