You did not say if he was your mom's dad's grandmother's first, secod or third cousin. I will assume first. Call the grandmother Alice, her son Bob and the person George Washington.

Alice = GW's first cousin
Bob - GW's 1st cousin ONCE removed
Charles (Your mom's dad) = 1st cousin TWICE removed
Dorothy (You rmom) = 1st cousin 3 times removed
Eleee (You) = 1st cousin 4 times removed.

When you have children, they will be his 1st cousin five times removed. You add a rmoved for each generation.

If he was a second cousin, it is the same, but you put second cousin in place of first each time.

I am not sure but it is still to close for you to date each other.
We call that a joke.

They would be like your 5th or 6th cousin. Who is it?

Good Luck! God Bless!

In simple terms, a cousin. If you want, then a cousin removed X number of times.

That would mean not really very closely related. In New York, is was legal to marry a first cousin; I don't know about any more. So, not really very closely related.

Correction! It would be your great great grandmother's first cousin. He would be first cousin once removed to your great grandfather. First cousin twice removed to your grandfater, 1st cousin 3 times removed from from mother and your first cousin 4 times removed.

The removes come in when you are in a different generation coming down from a common ancestor.

If its your great-great-grandma's cousin, then they are your cousin 4 times removed.

These are always hard to figure out!
