Where does "Kiss me, I'm Irish" come from?

The phrase refers to the Blarney Stone. In Ireland you kiss the Blarney Stone for "the gift of gab" or great skill at flattery. People made the saying up as a joke as an Irish person being the next best thing to the Blarney Stone.

Maybe it's an obscure reference to kissing Ireland's Blarney Stone?

The same place that "Kiss me, I'm Norwegian" came from...and that's no blarney.

It comes from buttons they sell to sexually ambitious men around St. Patrick's day. Some of them are old enough to be your grandfather. Some of them are still in high school.

An awful lot of Italians (Columbus Day), Chinese (Chinese New Year), Mexicans (Cinco de Mayo), Union members (Labor day), Veterans (Memorial Day) and gay men (Halloween) wish they had thought of it first.
