Question:Harriet B is the 1st wife of Robert Bernard Mackall . He is the son of Alda Toland and Roy Mackall. Bernard was born in 1922 in Wellsville,ohio.. I don't know when he and harriett married . I know she has a sister name Janet. Harriett recently died but her son doesn't know anything as i've asked him.

I don't know why her son wouldn't know that !!! He knew enough to put her brothers surname in her obituary. She came from a HUGE family! I believe that her maiden name was Bober. In her obituary it states that she is survived by her son, two grandchildren and a brother, John and Pat Bober of Fort Worth, Texas. Since men don't typically change names, I would say that there is a good chance that her maiden name was Bober.

Here is the obituary
Published in the Akron Beacon Journal on 3/12/2008.

Harriett B. Mackall
Harriett B. Mackall, age 84, died Monday after a short illness.

Born in Caldwell, Ohio, she had lived most of her life in Canton. Harriett retired after over 20 years of public school service from Summit Elementary School as a Secretary. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kurtis and Florence Mackall of Copley, Ohio; two grandchildren whom she cherished, Ellen and Jonathan Mackall who loved their Nana dearly; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Pat Bober of Ft. Worth, Texas; special niece, Janice Kovalchik of Columbus, Ohio; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; brothers, Joe, Andy, Dave and Edward; and sisters, Lottie, Mary and her beloved sister, Janet. Harriett had many good neighbors in Canton and wonderful friends from her time at Summit School.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 1 p.m. in St. John's Catholic Church, with Fr. Ronald Klingler as Celebrant. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given in her memory to St. John's Church. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. Given the names of the brothers and sisters that predeceased her, I found the family in the 1930 census. They are listed as follows

Source Citation: Year: 1930; Census Place: Noble, Noble, Ohio; Roll: 1859; Page: 12A; Enumeration District: 17; Image: 1036.0.

Household Members: Name Age
John Bober 52
Anna Bober 42
Andy Bober 18
David Bober 14
Edward Bober 12
Janette A Bober 9
Harietle Bober 7
John Bober 4 4/12

Her parents were both from Czechslovakia, according to the census.

Here is the family in 1920, before the birth of Harriett
Source Citation: Year: 1920;Census Place: Noble, Noble, Ohio; Roll: T625_1424; Page: 6A; Enumeration District: 164; Image: 530.

Household Members: Name Age
John Bober 41
Anna Bober 31
Estella Bober 11
Joe Bober 10
Andy Bober 9
Mary Bober 6
Teddy Bober 4 1/12
Edward Bober 2
The fathers birth place is listed as Galicia. mother tongue is Polish. This census says that the year of immigration was 1907.

There is an online family tree on Ancestry that suggests that Anna's maiden name MIGHT have been Kantor. This is just a POSSIBLITY until you can prove it with documents.

I hope this helps!!

EDIT: I don't know why anyone would "thumbs down" my answer. It gave the answer to the askers question, with sound RESEARCH. She wanted to know the maiden surname of Harriett Mackall. Not only was I able to ascertain that information from her obit, I was able to find her parents in two censuses.

Is Robert still alive.
Could this be him,

Harriet's maiden name would logically be on her son's birth certificate. Same applies to birth certificates for any children of Janet. I am assuming that Harriet and Robert had children? If Bernard (Robert) was born in 1922, it is reasonably safe to say that his children would be born ABOUT 1942 at the earliest. Death certs for either Janet or Harriet are also probable sources for maiden names (and hopefully parent's names).
The birth certs mentioned are very possibly for persons who are still living.. so we would not normally be able to find that online. These are relatively recent records, and most reputable sites won't include living persons. Once you find the parent's names, they would be workable in census records, as well as documentation when they died.
I don't understand, Harriets son not having access to his birth certificate?
