i'm assuming you know what tribe you are. You apply for a CDIB through your tribe. you have to be able to prove a direct bloodline....so if your parent who your grandfather fathered doesn't have a CDIB....they will need to get one before you can.

Not all tribes are equal in their acceptance of applicants. Some require a certain blood degree to be recognized.

I believe that you would need to contact the tribal counsel of your heritage(cherokee nation ...etc.) and prove your lineage.

Go to the genealogy studies at your local library. You're going to have to prove your heritage.
When you've got your information, you need to inform your tribe that you wish to register with them.
