Yeah. They are beneficial, they work, and matter what the cost its worth it. You find out where your ancestors were from, and all about your ancestors, and then you can add that to yourself. Do some more research, google DNA testing. Its really worth it.

Not exactly. DNA tests in genealogy will tell you generally the geographic origins of your ancestors based on having DNA that is common in certain populations of people in certain areas of the world. But it will NOT tell you who your ancestors are. They do not have DNA samples from everyone that ever lived, or hardly anyone that lived more than a few decades ago. You are not going to find out by DNA testing if King so and so from 1492 AD is your 18th great-grandfather.

EDIT: If you want to have the DNA test done, you are going to have to google for that information. There are TONS of places that will do it, and the prices will vary.

EDIT: Lou Lou answered this question and then a few minutes later re-asked practically the same question. Seems like someone is playing with multiple Yahoo accounts which is against Yahoo rules. Both have been reported so Yahoo can figure it out.

DNA tests are what you are referring to; I used www.familytreedna.com, the best out there. As to cost, it depends upon what level testing you want done. You can test your yDNA or your mtDNA, or both, a "shallow" test, or a "deep" test.
You can google "dna testing", check your local library's genealogy program, check out books on DNA testing, then decide what is in it for you.
As for the critics saying it is not reliable, that it only works for a certain number of generations ago, etc., think of this: Do you ever watch any of the CSI TV shows? See how prominant DNA testing is? At the present time, DNA testing is the single most reliable test that can be done. No, it will not give the names, date/places of birth/marriage/death, but IT WILL tell you where your straight-line ancestors came from. (Straight-line: your dad, his dad, his dad, and so on, and of course, the same for your mom.)
As mine shows ancestors from every country in Europe, several African countries, Australia, Japan, the Philippines, China, Central and South America and Mexico, plus islands from all around the world, I think it is definitely worth the cost, plus you can learn so much more than through any books!
