Position:Home>Genealogy> Where can I find a full geneology tree of General Winfield Scott, of the Civil W

Question:I've been looking for years. I have been told that I am related somehow to this particular general, and have visited many sites. Some sites say he may be related to Pocahontas and may have royal linkage. (Out of all of the things I've heard, those are the least plausible, but hey, someone has to be related to Pocohontas. never say never.) I don't really mind if I'm related to this legend or not; I would still like to track the tree down for the sake of those who are. I've been having an extremely hard time with this because there are bridges, lakes, counties, children, etc., named after Gen. Winfield Scott. Looking for a tree that is mostly focused in Virginia or along the eastern seaboard. Thanks!!

P.S. I do have my family tree, it is not that limited at all, but would like to merge another tree with mine for clarification purposes

is about the biggest, after the Mormons. Usually famous people are there in MANY data bases. It is up to you to judge how compeent the researchr was.

Hmm, where to start. OK, starters...it was the Revolutionary War, not the Civil War. Much has been written on Gen. Scott, and I'm more than certain that you can find his pedigree on the Web.

Good luck.

I'll tell you what I can remember. Mexican American War, not civil war or revolutionary war.

Try the Biographies of Winfred Scott. One was written by Eisenhower, I think, according to Grandma. This will give you some insight, and maybe some friends of family and detailed research of who he was and where he came from.

If all else fails, go to your public library, or better yet, use the library databases online. If you need a password to one of the geneology ones sponsered by Bell Library I will let you have mine. One of them is restricted to lawyers only, but since tamucc pays $200 a year for access, I'll let you enjoy a piece of the pie. =)

Again, biographies would be a great start. From there, read carefully and start taking names. If mexican american war wasn't it, I think it was the other one around that time... Spanish American War. He ran for president of Texas so it has to be after 1836. Hope this helps. If you need any more help let me know I'd be glad to offer you some historical insight on research, even though you already know a lot!

Sometimes we hit snags, but keep it up because the goldmine awaits...
