House of Names is a surname product peddler. They are only out to sell you something. Coats of arms (misnomer family crest) do not belong to surnames. They were and are granted to individuals and only the direct male line descendants are entitled to them. The family history that they provide is no doubt a valid one but maybe not necessarily for every Arneson family.

People in European countries did not have surnames until the last melennium. They took them based on 1. being the son of someone 2. their occupation 3. where they lived 4. some characteristic about them. When they were through taking or being assigned a surname, legitimate sons of the same man could each have a different surname but they each shared their surname with others with whom they were not related.

Sounds Scandinavian, but I'm not sure, thats just a guess.

Respelling of Swedish Arnesson or Norwegian and Danish Arnesen, patronymics from Arne. Arnison is a frequent surname in northern England, and in some cases Arneson could be a respelling of this.

Arne's Son
It is Scandinavian (Swedish, Norwegian, or Danish) probably Swedish.

Arne was the father. His children took the sir name or last name according to his first name:

Sven ArnesSON
Britt Arnesdaughter

This practice went out of fashion when they started immigrating to America ~ there were too many with the same name at Ellis Island so people took their normal last name or made one up.
