Position:Home>Genealogy> Old photo help?

Question:when my mother passed, I was givin a bunch of pictures for my family. There is a picture of my as a baby (taken about 1977) and "great-papa Clark". Does anyone know how I could find out who this person is. He was very old at the time of the photo, and in a wheelchair. Anyone I could think to ask has passed on. As far as I know, there was no Clarks in my family?

You are on a great feat that is going to take some time, but impressive you are so interested in family. I would start out by writing down notes on all the information you have about who is who in your family (if you haven't already done so). Then you should start surfing and surfing the internet. Chose websites related to geneology of the states your family has come from, search death records, birth records and marriage records. I would list some links here if I knew which state(s) you needed. You will be amazed at how many others have open posts on geneology websites, and at some point you are bound to stumble upon someone who will be able to help you sort out the questions of your picture. It's difficult if families are small and if most have passed (as you stated). It will require a lot of time on your part-and dedication. Good luck to you. I hope you find all of your answers.

maybe Clark was his first name?? Maybe he was a great grandfather? Good luck.

Your grandparents birth certificates would identify their parents.

If you don't know the maiden names of your grandmothers you could start with their death certificates. That information is usually there, as are birthdates if you don't know them already.

Date of death is fairly easy to find if you don't know it; if you look for a free SSDI (Social Security Death Index) search engine online you can probably find your grandparents in the database.

Birth and death record cost vary from state to state but if you know the dates they are rarely above $15-$20 dollars.

If it is a great-grandparent you should find him pretty quickly.
