Some others said it was Amis and some Ames. John McCutchen, enlisted during March or April 1776 as orderly sergeant under Capt. John Caldwell and Col. William Thomson in the Third South Carolina Regiment. He marched to Charleston but became ill and was carried to Camden and from there inland. He recovered enough to join Capt, Felix Warley. After being discharged late in 1777 he went to the Seneca River and enlisted as orderly sergeant under Capt. Benjamin Tutt and Col. Williamson and was in the seige of Savannah. Thereafterhe was assigned to Capt Moore, was captured at Seneca Fort, and held prisoner at Ninety Six, Camden, and Waxhaws. During this time he was ill with the smallpox. McCutchen was abandoned by his captors during the battle at Kings Mountain. He joined Col. Farr on a scout against the Indians at the time of the siege of Ninety Six. McCutchen was allowed a pension on his application executed 23 Feb 1833 while residing in Jackson County, Alabama, and aged seventy seven years).
