Position:Home>Genealogy> Is there anywhere i can get free BMD and census records before 1881?

Question:No there is only the one UK census that is free, there is this site http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ for the bmd records but I don't think they are complete. If you are prepared to pay a little there is www.ancestry.co.uk they are now doing pay per view.
I have membership to ancestry.com /.co.uk and I would be happy to look some information up for you. You can either email me through my profile or edit your question and include details of what it is you are looking for.
Hope this helps.

I am unable to find anything in the 1861 census relating to Thomas and his family. I have however found the birth index details for both Thomas jr and Walter. Both sons were registered in Sudbury, which I believe was a town in Suffolk.
Thomas jr was listed as being 4 months old in the 1851 census that meant he would have been born towards the end of 1850, he was born in the O/N/D quarter of 1850 and the volume number is Xll, I think that translates to 12, and the page number is 461. The 1851 census was taken on Sunday 30th March.
Walter like Thomas was registered in Sudbury Suffolk, in the O/N/D quarter of 1854, the volume number is 4a and the page number is 321, and if you are ordering the certificates from the GRO http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ they will cost £8:50 each.
The 1841 census was taken on Sunday 6 th June 1841 and the 1871 census was taken on Sunday 2nd April.

Try your local library's historic archives. If they are worth their salt, they'll have these records. If the condition is good enough, you should be able to photocopy them.

There are some online sites that may have the census records you want (depends upon location)

freecen.org.uk
census-online.com
censusfinder.com

See http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ for other records

Also, you can see free "previews" of BMD records at 192.com

bmds can be found here
http://www.freebmd.org.uk
and also the following site which transcribes some marrages etc up to the 1950s, which is much more recent than the freebmd website (depending on your region)
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/
these go back to 1837.
If you want to go further back than that, you can use
http://www.familysearch.org/
Which has bmds as recorded by parish records.
As for censuses, you gotta pay, unless you take out a 14 day free trial on ancestry.

Long shot but try here

good luck and good hunting
