Position:Home>Genealogy> I have a question about graves?

Question:My mother passed away when I was a teen. Her family, who didnt talk to us at the time due to my mother being an alcholic and what not. They still dont talk to me. She is barried in a cemetary with her family. I was wondering if anyone knows can you move someone who has been barried for years? Im older now, have children and I am married. Say i was to go buy plots for me and my husband, can I have her moved to be next to me? I dont want to buy plots where she is at, and I dont think there are any left. Is this possiable? cost would be near?

You can have a person moved to a new resting place. You have to look into the fees to find out if it is cost effective for you.

My grandfathers sister died at age 27 from brain cancer. Her husband had her buried and almost immediately remarried. Furthermore, he wanted to put the youngest of their three kids into an orphanage! My great grandmother was NOT pleased and decided to raise her grandson as her own rather than have him adopted out. She also couldn't stand the thought of her daughter in the cemetery with no family around her so she had her daughter moved to her family plot.

I have other families in my relation who lost babies really young and buried them only to realize that they couldn't buy the plots around where their baby was buried. They later bought a family plot and had the baby relocated. It happens more often than you think. You do have to pay to open and close the old grave and new grave and to have the monument relocated as well as transport fees. It would be impossible to give you a quote because not only do fees differ from town to town, they differ from cemetery to cemetery.

I don't think this is possible OR humane.

yes it is possible and it would cost around these lines: Opening the grave and filling it back in after the move: check with the cemetery, but I'd guess $400 to $800.

Cost of funeral director to be there for all this: $500 to $1,500 (again, just a guess, might be more)

New casket: $1,295 would be an average low-priced one. The old casket will have fallen apart if it's wood or rusted out if it's metal.

Transportation to the new cemetery: $2 per mile

New opening and closing charges at the new cemetery: $400 to $800 (Could be more!)

New vault: $1,000

I'm guessing it would be a minimum of $5,000 and could be more.

I'm guessing that whoever bought the plot would own the rights to it. If you could get that person's permission, perhaps you could arrange to have her moved. If that person has passed away, I'm assuming that his/her heirs would own it.

If your mother bought the plot and you're her heir, perhaps you can do this.

You would have to check the laws in the county/state where she's buried. You would also have to get the cemetery's permission, too.

BUT If her family is not talking to you now, I'm guessing they will be absolutely FURIOUS if you try to do this. It will cause another family war. It might not be worth it, especially for your kids....

i think you can...but it will probably cost quite a bit...my father had my nephew moved from Texas to Minnesota...i know it can be done

Yes, you have to have permission from your mother's husband or mother or father to do it if none are left alive and you are nearest living relative then you have to fill out a lot of papers to have it done.

WOW
first of all how can you uburry ur mom 'cause someones body in a grave is dissovled in the earth and the insects and everything else would be gone... all the bines wuld be gone exept for one bon which is the back bone... it stays there forever
